• ARCHIVE : Torre Abbey Flower Festival
    Date: 11-14 September

Phoenix Rising is the theme for this year's flower festival when the Abbey will be ablaze with colour and heavy with floral scents.

There will be in excess of  51 exhibits by 50 flower arrangers from Torbay Flower Club, supplemented by Churston with Brixham, Kingsbridge,Teignmouth and  Netwon Abbot for this prestigious event.

Planning for the event started in November 2008 when the theme Phoenix Rising was chosen to mark the ambitious restoration of Torre Abbey.  The arrangers visited the Abbey to see the locations for their displays and to plan their designs.  Most of the foliage comes from their gardens but this will be supplemented in part from the Torre Abbey Gardens and Palm House supplied by Head Gardener, Ali Marshall.

The 2009 marks a welcome return to the Abbey for the festival team, some of whom have run successful festivals over the past 12 years.

Event organiser, Gill Marjoram explains "It's good to be returning to such a lovely building which lends itself to stunning intepretative arrangements of flowers and foliage.  Although there has been much alteration with the renovations we feel that our displays will enhance the beauty of the Abbey and impress the visitors.

The arrangers give voluntarily of their time and expertise but welcome donations for this year's chosen charity, Children's Hospice South West.

The Flower Festival runs from 11th to 14th September 2009.  Open daily from 10am to 6pm (last admission 5pm). Normal Torre Abbey entry prices apply.
