• Arrows Fly Over Torre Abbey
    08/07/2008

The arrows were flying during Torre Abbey's opening weekend with special performances by a medieval troop of Feudal Archers.

The Feudal Archers marked the Abbey's first days of opening with a performance of archery and other medieval battle tactics.  Visitors the the Abbey were able to learn all about the weaponry and armour that would have been used in the time the Abbey was built in 1196.

The Canons of the Abbey were of course a peaceful order but there were times when they would play a role in protecting the Abbey and the community of farmers in the surrounding countryside.

The Archer is explaining to visitors how arrows were made and the lethal design of arrowheads.
