Welcome to the brand new Torre Abbey website, celebrating the re-opening of one of Devon's most historic visitor attractions.

"The Abbey is a fantastic blend of medieval heritage and modern culture, so our new website carries that flavour forward with a subtle images and a medieval-style script combined with all of the information and functionality that modern surfers expect including features on our up and coming contemporary art exhibitions," says Dr Michael Rhodes, Head of Museum Services. "We were also keen to tell the story of the £6.5m restoration itself, so there are plenty of images from the excavations and some inside views on the dramas surrounding such a large and exciting project."

Torre Abbey is the biggest surviving mediaeval monastery in Devon (and Cornwall). It first took shape in 1196 as a Premonstratensian Monastery, and today enjoys one of the finest seafront locations on the south west coastline. Able to boast the third largest art collection in Devon, the Abbey is part-gallery, part-museum, and part-historic house.

The Abbey opened its doors to the public once again on July 5th, following a massive three-year, £6.5-million restoration project – officially, the Heritage Lottery Fund's flagship project for South West England. An "Official Opening", involving the actor David Suchet, is planned for Autumn, 2009.

The new website has been built and managed by Devon-based Website Vision.
