The Gregorian Choir of Grimbergen Abbey was founded in 1968 by its members and has since been directed by Gereon van Boesschoten, a Premonstratensian in the Abbey of Grimbergen, near Brussels.

Each Sunday the choir sings during holy liturgy in the abbey church and basilica. As well as local people, others travel from across the country and abroad to take part in the celebration of mass.  An abbey is not only a centre of cultural and scholarly life, but needs to be a centre of spiritual life in the first place. That is the purpose of the Gregorian Choir of Grimbergen Abbey.

The choir, which celebrated its fiftieth anniversary in 2018, started modestly with a handful of young idealists. Slowly but steadily the choir has matured into what it is today - a group of enthusiastic friends who want to sing Holy Liturgy ad maiorem Dei gloriam.

The choir is often seen on the television or heard on the radio, when the holy mass is broadcast from the Grimbergen Basilica. The choir also performed during the Pope’s visit to Belgium, at Heiligdomsvaart in Maastricht, the Netherlands and participation in the Gregorian festival in Watou. However, their most prestigious performance was at the solemn funeral of King Baudouin in 1993 and Queen Fabiola in 2014.

This performance will be held in the stunning setting of the Spanish Barn at Torre Abbey.
