Torre Abbey is delighted to present Finding Balance, a vibrant and contemplative new exhibition by acclaimed textile artist JPR Stitch (Dr Jack Roberts). Running from 28 March to 28 June 2026, the exhibition invites visitors to slow down, breathe, and reconnect with calm in an increasingly noisy and fast-paced world.
JPR Stitch is celebrated for his distinctive approach to freehand machine embroidery, crafting bold, colourful and abstract textile artworks that explore emotion, tranquillity and balance. His process is deeply connected to mindfulness and the meditative qualities of making.
“When I create, I sink into calmness and the inner tranquillity that guides my art. When I sit at my sewing machine to stitch, I am free… I drift into emptiness, almost like entering the eye of a storm – in that moment all is still, calm, tranquil.” — JPR Stitch
Finding Balance brings together two contrasting yet complementary bodies of work:
- Daily Stitching's — quick, expressive pieces created every single day as part of the artist’s ongoing practice.
- Large-Scale Embroidered Works — bold, vibrant artworks that can take several months to complete and offer a striking counterbalance to the immediacy of his daily pieces.
The serene setting of Torre Abbey —with its historic buildings, peaceful gardens and monastic ruins — provides an ideal backdrop for an exhibition centred on quietness, sanctuary and reflection. The space encourages visitors to move at a slower pace, observe the interplay of colour and thread, and consider how calm can be found through place, creativity, or mindful practice.
It is hoped that the exhibition will offer guests a moment to pause, to rebalance, and to simply be present.
