Summer at Torre Abbey: Art, Theatre and Community Come Together

Torre Abbey is set for a lively and engaging summer season, bringing together visual art, outdoor theatre and community celebration in one of the English Riviera’s most historic and atmospheric settings. With a major exhibition, two August performances and the return of the popular Summer Fair, the Abbey offers a programme that is both varied and inviting.

At the centre of the season is Stay A While, running until 5 September 2026. This thoughtfully curated exhibition showcases rarely seen works from the Abbey’s collection, tracing the development of British landscape painting from the structured elegance of the Picturesque to the dramatic intensity of the Romantic Sublime. Visitors are encouraged to take their time with the artworks, exploring how artists used landscape to express emotion, imagination and changing ideas about the natural world. It’s a quietly compelling experience that sets a reflective tone for the summer ahead.

The pace picks up in August as Torre Abbey’s grounds become a hub for outdoor theatre. On 7 August, families can enjoy Jungle Book! — a lively musical adventure filled with original songs, audience interaction and a cast of well‑known characters. With Baloo, Bagheera and Mowgli leading the way, the production promises humour, energy and plenty of entertainment for all ages.

The following weekend, Four Forty Theatre return with their fast‑paced, inventive take on Shakespeare’s A Midsummer Night’s Dream. Known for their quick character changes and accessible style, the company delivers a concise and engaging version of the play that blends comedy with clear storytelling. It’s an ideal introduction for newcomers and an enjoyable reinterpretation for those already familiar with Shakespeare’s work.

Rounding off the season is the annual Summer Fair on 22 August. Running from 11am to 4pm with free entry, the fair brings together more than 30 stalls, live entertainment, animal encounters, food vendors and family activities. It’s a well‑loved event that draws both locals and visitors, offering a relaxed day out and a chance to support Torre Abbey’s ongoing cultural and conservation work.

Together, these events create a summer programme that is both enriching and enjoyable, making Torre Abbey a standout destination throughout the season. Whether you’re interested in art, theatre or community events, there is plenty to discover — and good reason to spend time exploring everything the Abbey has to offer.
